Check out our favorite series picks that all moms should watch down below.

10 Series All Moms & Young Adults Should Watch

Some of these shows are fun, others have serious topics that can help us when raising our children. These series were chosen by us because we just love them. Sure there are many other shows we love but we had to cut the list short lol. If you are thinking you are going to find a bunch of series on how to be a mom, well this list isn’t that. We wanted to put shows on this list that help us escape and have fun. Regardless if you are a mom, I’m pretty sure you will still love these shows.

1. 13 Reasons Why

13 reasons why

This show is a topic of great debate right now. Some applaud it and say that it’s finally bringing attention to a problem that is really hard to talk about. While others say it’s glorifying suicide. To summarize what this show is about, Hannah a high school girl commits suicide. She leaves behind 13 tapes detailing why she did it. The story follows Clay as he listens to the tape and unravels all the reasons why. There are parts of the show that are hard to watch. But I felt like it did me good to watch it. I feel more aware of what I say to others. And I have a better understanding of the signs of someone who is contemplating suicide. To be honest some of the reasons why are kind of petty, but you never really know everything that someone is going through. If you have older children (like high school age), it might be a good idea to watch it with them and start a discussion about this topic. Log in to Netflix to check this series out.

2. Bill Nye Saves The World

bill nye saves the world

Another show causing controversy, but if you were a 90’s kid like me Bill Nye holds a special place in your heart. We all grew up watching his show, (inertia is a property of matter) mostly in our science classes. He simply makes science fun. And now with this grown-up version of the show,  we can relive our childhood while learning more about interesting topics. It’s Science! Check out the first season on Netflix.

3. Shameless

shameless

This show is my guilty pleasure. It’s funny but yet manages to authentically show the real life struggles that many American families face. Sure, some of the situations that they get into can be a bit exaggerated. But overall it’s a great show. It’s perfect for when you just need a good laugh. This comedy series focuses on the Gallagher family and how it functions even with a dysfunctional family. It is on showtime so be prepared for a bunch of naughty scenes, probably best not to watch it when the kids are awake. You can find this show on Showtime.

4. Game of Thrones

game of thrones

This show is my favorite fantasy drama show ever. I grew up watching shows like Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess, so I became hooked on this show from the start. There are several plot lines, dozens of characters, and will mercilessly kill off your favorite characters without warning. There are parts that are hard to watch, or just gross you out, and as an HBO show, there will be naughty scenes. But it is worth watching and I can’t wait for the next season to begin. Also if you watch it you will understand references like “winter is coming”, ” Khaleesi”, “You know nothing, Jon Snow”, “When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east”. I could go on but I will stop. Catch up before the new season comes out July 16th, 2017. Watch every season on HBO.

5. This Is Us

this is us

Generally, I don’t like to watch shows that are heart wrenching but this is an awesome show. It starts up with a back story that is super sweet and turns sad when Rebecca and Jack, lose one of their triplets. They adopt a baby that was abandoned that same day. Then it flashes forward to the three kids current lives. Lots of situations ensue and it’s really worthwhile to watch. The first season is available on Hulu. As you can probably tell, I love binge watching shows. I have no patience. I should probably work on that.

6. Girls

girls

Girls is a comedy-drama series about a group of girls in their twenty’s and pretty much revolves around their lives and mistakes. The series ended last year, but there are 6 seasons full of embarrassing moments and something almost anyone can relate to. I for one really related to Hannah when she was working out in her room and trying to follow along to some workout DVD. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who looks ridiculous trying to follow along at home. This is just one of those shows you can easily relate to. This show is also available on HBO.

7. The Affair

the affair

If you ever needed a little reminder that having an affair isn’t a good idea, then just watch this. It’s about two married people who meet over the summer and have (you guessed it) an affair. Now if you think the typical sort of stuff that happens after an affair is what this is all about, your wrong. There are so many twists, it will definitely hold your interest. I can’t tell you too much without spoiling some stuff for you. Let’s just say that affairs can get very messy. You can check it out on Showtime.

 8. Dexter dexter

America’s favorite serial killer. Ok so that might sound bad, but he only kills criminals that have somehow managed to play the justice system and walk free from their crimes. If you love shows like CSI Miami or anything on Investigation Discovery then you will love Dexter. You can find this show on Netflix and binge watch all the seasons. Yes, sadly this show has been done for some time now, but it is still one of my favorites. Comment down below if you were disappointed in the ending of the series like I was. I mean come on! Really?! I won’t spoil the ending for you but err! It is totally unexpected, which I like, but seriously show writers? Watch it find out what I’m talking about 🙂 See all the seasons on Netflix.

   9. Grey’s Anatomy grey's anatomy

Who hasn’t watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy? Or heard of Dr. Mcdreamy? There are so many episodes to this series, let alone seasons, so it would be hard to binge watch everything. But it’s a great medical drama to watch. There are many times that I have cried watching it. I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t say why, but it is most definitely worth your time. The show follows the lives of doctors at a hospital in Seattle from when first as interns and as they advance in their careers, as well as the residents and attending physicians who are training them. Watch from the beginning on Netflix.

10. Nurse Jackienurse jackie

Just like Dexter this is an oldie but goodie. You can binge-watch the whole series, and it is rather entertaining. Although I work in a hospital and I know that these kinds of shows stray from reality, it is still funny to watch. It also is great for moms because it portrays some of the difficulties working moms face day to day. Catch all the seasons on Netflix.
